The Strange Addiction

Of all the things to get hooked to, I can't understand my addiction to CD burning.

I am aware that this is probably a one-off thing. It's not likely to happen very often. I'm just in a phase.

I never realised how similar CD burning is to reading. One moment you're going 'Just one more chapter. ONE more chapter, that's all...' and the next, you're going 'Just one more CD. ONE more CD, that's all...'. I know- it's weird.

I've also discovered that WinXP has a wonderful integrated CD burning software. The burns are perfect (haven't encountered a coaster yet), and it's so easy. It sure beats using the Nero software that came with my cd-writer. Imagine this, if the files are already on my hard disk, it only takes 13 mins to burn a CD with about 650+mb worth of files.

Ain't that incredible?

I've also discovered at external CD-writers are not all that fast. When you compare my internal drive on my home PC (which is close to 3 years old, is a P3 and has approx 128Mb of RAM) vs the external drive connected my 1 year old notebook (P4 and 256Mb RAM), the difference is SO huge!

My house PC, with a 32-speed writer completes the job in 13 minutes.

My external writer connected to the notebook, is 40-speed and takes 24 minutes to complete a similar job.

... I don't understand it. Gaaaaaaahh! Does using a USB cable slow things down by 50%?!

Oh well, doesn't matter. All that matters is having a copy of my anime!

... must burn more...

Hmmm, upgrades...

The supplier intelligence was gone up one notch from plain dumb to hopelessly irritating.

Of course, not all suppliers are inconsiderate trolls who should never see the light of day. Some of them are actually very nice and cooperative.

Right, back to the suppliers who are trolls.

Let me illustrate it as such:

Supplier 1:Lookie, I got me a cool new gadget. It's called a handphone!
Supplier 2: Wow! What does it do?
S1: It plays music, it can take photos AND it can be a calculator!
S2: I wish I had one-

Ring ring! Ring ring!

S2: Oh no! It makes that horrid sound too! Why does it do that?!
S1: Hmm, I don't know. But if you press this red button, the sound stops immediately, see?
S2: You're so clever!

And this is what I basically encountered last week.

~~Killing Aura~~

If I were a ninja in Naruto, everyone would have been able to sense my killing aura.

Seriously, some people just 'tak paham bahasa'.

...

You can tell that a supplier has thoroughly ruined my day?? Bril.

Sometimes, it feels like the idiots that used to haunt our classrooms have come to haunt us for the rest of our working lives.

Hell, I believe that some of my suppliers practice the following situation:
Venue: Supplier's Office
Ring ring! Ring ring!

Supplier 1:What is that sound?! continuous ringing in background
Supplier 2:... Beats me. I dunno. But it seems to coming from that strange white contraption on top of your square piece of wood where you've stacked papers in the watchamacallits.
S1: Yea... I think you're right. The light on this thingamajig with many buttons is blinking.

Ring ring! Ring ring!

S1:Argh! How do I make it stop ringing?!
S2: You know what I do? I usually ignore it. It stops after a while.
Ring ring! Ri-...
S1:Yea, you're right. You're a genius!
S2: Ah well, it takes years of experience.

Ode to a Tree

It's gone, the tree behind my window. It fell victim to the violent storm last evening. Imagine, a rambutan tree broken at the trunk.

I always had mixed feelings about that tree. I preferred the rambutans from the trees in the front garden and if possible, didn't take rambutans from this fallen tree. I had a peeping tom once climb up this tree. And it caused a lot of trouble for me during rambutan season as outsiders could reach for the fruits from the back alley.

But it has also provided me with shade (I hate the sun, but surprisingly, I like to look at brightly lit tall buildings at night) and shielded my room from prying eyes.

And now it's gone. The space behind my window seems so big and empty. There's no more tree. No more fruit. No more shade.

I feel like I've lost a part of my room. I've been occupying that room since I was 14, that's 8 long years and I never really paid much attention to it. It was just... there.

And for once, I wish I had taken some of it's rambutan during the last season.

Goodbye Tree. I'll miss you.

I'm Sunburnt!

How did I get sunburnt?! I avoid the sun like a PLAGUE!

But yesterday, I had a reason to take a short walk in the sun. By short, I mean less than 100m. Yesterday was Baskin RObbins Day - 31% off on handpacked ice-cream.

So me and my colleagues went to Giant, Shah Alam to feast. We parked the car a little from the entrance and for a very short period of time (ie from the car to the covered walkway), I was in the sun.

Today, I realised that I have some sunburn marks on my forehead (which I initially thought was some moisturiser that didn't apply well). Strange, huh?

Why oh why did I get sunburnt? Arrrrghhh- dislike sun! Will make extra effort to avoid sun.

The ice-cream was good though. ^_____^
